4 oz butter
4 oz granulated sugar

8 oz self raising flour

1lb cooking apples
1 egg

2 tbsp milk

6oz raisins

pinch salt

Demerara sugar for topping


Rub the butter into the flour to form breadcrumbs then add the sugar

Peal and chop the apples into small cubes, add to the dry mix with the raisins

Mix in the egg and milk . Mix well to form a stiff (not crumbly) consistency.

Spread evenly into a greased square tin

Sprinkle with demerara sugar and bake in the oven 170C for 50 mins to 1 hour until golden.

Can be served as a pudding warm with custard or cold as a cake.
